Lost and forgotten, and stolen within a raging nebula, a lone figure stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Station Ravenloft. The Vampirate, Captain Strahd von Zarovich, stares down from one of the battlements of his abandoned starship orbiting the asteroid mining colony, Barovia. A bitter wind from the cosmic sea billows his cape in utter darkness.
Rumbling thunder, caused by countless extraplanar and astral forces colliding with one another, violently shakes the Station’s spires as Strahd’s gaze turns to the colony below. Far beneath him, yet not beyond his ken, a spelljamming ship harboring a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. His face forms a twisted smile as his dark plan unfolds; he knew they were coming, and for what. And he will attend to them.
A cosmic splash of plasma rips through the ink-black sea of the Dread System, lighting up the dark nebula and the deprecated asteroid, the thrashing thunder echoing through the Station’s towers. Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the astral wind – or perhaps a lone space wolf – fills the shadowy void. The Captain of Station Ravenloft is having guests for dinner.
